As humanity’s consciousness grows, and reclaims its knowledge of energy, the human energy system, and healing with energy, many energetic practices are becoming popular. These include “deeksha,” “oneness blessings,” “energy healing,” “empowerments,” and other techniques.
Reiki was originally taught for the same purpose as “deeksha”- as an energetic blessing and technique that was intended to raise the consciousness of the recipient. (As Western Reiki masters learn more about how Reiki was originally taught in Japan, we have had a whole new understanding of Reiki given to us.)
Reiki is unique among energy healing techniques – it is the only one that includes “attunements,” where the Reiki Master opens the chakras of the student to be an “open pipe” to channel the Reiki energy.
The original students of Reiki were given “attunements” or deeksha, each time they saw their teacher. Their spiritual practice was meditation on the Reiki mantras, and, if they had trouble connecting with the energy, with the Reiki symbols.
Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki gave his students an attunement each time they saw him. As they meditated regularly on the Reiki mantras, they gave Reiki “treatments” to themselves. Both of these practices were, like “deesha,” meant to raise the energy and consciousness of the student. Healing was an added “side effect.”
What should you look for in an energy healing method, or an energetic path to enlightenment?
First, a method of energetic transference for enlightenment, or an energetic healing method should teach the practitioner that they should never use their own energy in treating someone else. Energy transference between individuals is never optimum, as the practitioner can become easily drained, and both individuals can pick up energetic imbalances (and the problems that go with them) from each other.
Likewise, the quality and effects of “deeksha” may be more dependent on the vibrational and consciousness level of the practitioner, if they are not channeling pure energy through them.
What is the motivation of the teacher/leaders of the practice? Are they selfless givers, who intend to benefit as many people as possible, or does the organization appear to be more geared towards building an empire, and buildings? Always listen to your intuition when thinking of becoming involved with one of these practices.
Reiki is a modern method of learning ancient energy practices for enlightenment and healing, dating back to esoteric Buddhism in India. Reiki itself has been taught since the start of the 20th Century, and is practiced by thousands all over the world.
It is the only “energy healing” method that teaches the practitioner to be an open channel for the energy, instead of using their own. It is also features the “attunement” where the Reiki Master opens the chakras of the student to become a clear channel for the Reiki energy themselves.
